Swine -- Dept. 18
All Swine must be owned by Junior Exhibitor by July 15, 2010.
Maximum weight for Market, Commercial Gilts, and Barrows is 280 lbs. for 2010.
Minimum weight for Market, Commercial gilts and Barrows is 200 lbs for 2010.
New Rule – All hogs must be entered online at http://ncadf.fairmanager.com by September 1, 2010.
If an exhibitor does not have access to a computer, contact your County Extension Agent or Vo-Ag Instructor.
No late entries will be accepted after September 20, 2010 and a late fee will be charged.
Market Hogs
- Market hogs can only be exhibited by junior exhibitors.
- Each Vo-Ag teacher or county Agent will be issued a weight sheet to record the declared weight of the animal. They must be filled out in ink. Animals may also be weighed on official scales and weight recorded by the superintendent or a person designated by the superintendent.
Barrows
- The Grand Champion Market Hog will not compete in the Barrow Show.
Commercial Gilts
- Commercial gilt is defined as any gilt that is crossbred or any purebred gilt that is ineligible for registration.
- The Grand Champion Market Hog will not compete in the Commercial Gilt Show.
- The Grand Champion Gilt will not show for Supreme Breeding Swine.
Breeding Swine
- All animals must have a registration certificate at time of entry. No pending registration will be accepted.
- Pigs farrowing after April 30, 2010 cannot compete.
Chapter Entries: all animals must be registered in the name of the FFA Chapter. Registration papers must be in the hands of the youth exhibitor or inspected by the department clerk before showing for proof of ownership and age of animal.
Breeding swine will be shown in the following order: (1) Duroc, (2) Hampsire, (3) Yorkshire, and (4) All Other Breeds.
Points Value
All classes will be placed as follows: 1st place – 24 pts, 2nd place – 20 pts, 3rd place – 18 pts,
4th place – 17 pts, 5th place – 16 pts, 6th place – 15 pts, 7th place – 14 pts, 8th place – 13 pts,
9th place – 11 pts and 10th place – 10 pts.
